Prioritizing and values are core to a lifestyle of peace of mind when you can eliminate interruptions keeping you from the activities that make you money.
Prioritizing and values identification is one of the time management tools which encourages you to focus on the bigger picture of your life. This differs from setting goals because it also gets you thinking about the sequence and timing on performing the most important tasks first.
Quality of life is something to consider when you begin time and task prioritizing and values identification. In the short term you have to pay your bills and need cash flow to do that.
Everybody wants to be happy. Who doesn't? But not everybody knows what they want so
prioritization and values
indentification makes it difficult to set in place bigger life princples until you know what you want.
In almost all situations having overall
time management tools
are important, but what is also important is to be sure that you set aside blocks of time to work on those tasks which are connected to money and can help you increase your income and improve your cash flow so you can focus your thoughts, goals, and priorities on core life principles.
Most people don't know the cost of interruptions and distractions in their businesses. If you are self-employed and are having trouble getting off center point to begin making some money, begin by eliminating, or at least reducing, the interruptions and distractions which disrupt your concentration and create that helpless and desperate feeling of not being able to get anything accomplished during your working hours. Often you will find that you never take the opportunity to disengage from your day. You carry it, and your unfinished projects, into your evenings.
You can control the craziness of your life caused by others' demand on your time and attention. You can choose whether the pressing matter is
urgent or important
. Did you know every time someone interrupts you they have taken twenty minutes of your time away from you. It takes on average about twenty minutes to get your mind back to the level of concentration it was before you were interrupted. How many twenty minutes of billable time are you willing to give to other people throughout your day?
Schedule the most important tasks, which are connected to hours you can bill, for first thing in your day. Don't do another thing until you have generated at least two hours of billed hours for the day. Get up, and take a break. Come back to your desk refreshed and work on another project connected to income. Once you have enough
billable hours
under your belt for the day, begin tackling some of those urgent demands placed on you by other people. At least they can't take from you what you've already accomplished for the day.
End your work day knowing you made some money today!
