What Is Amata? Inside the AI Matchmaking App
A guide on the new AI matchmaking app, Amata, including how its AI chooses matches, plans dates, and what the service costs.
What is Amata?
Amata is a matchmaking app that uses an AI matchmaker to decide who users meet. Each month, it arranges thousands of dates across the U.S.
Instead of swiping through profiles, users tell their AI matchmaker about their interests, preferences, and daily routines. When two people are interested in meeting, Amata takes over the logistics, deciding when and where the date will happen. The app is open to adults 21 and older. Amata first tested the service in Australia before launching in the U.S., beginning with New York.
Who founded Amata?
Amata was co-founded by Ludovic Huraux, who was serving as CEO as of October 2025, along with two other serial entrepreneurs. Huraux is a French entrepreneur who previously founded the dating site Attractive World and was an early investor in Hugging Face. The company raised $6 million when it launched in late 2023 and has received $15 million in backing from venture firms in the U.S. and Europe.
How does Amata use AI?
Amata gives each user a personal AI matchmaker that handles the process from learning what they are looking for to helping them reflect on dates afterward. Each user is assigned an illustrated avatar, called their "Amata," that gets to know them through conversation. The AI considers thousands of data points when looking for compatible matches.
Once two people agree that they want to meet, Amata opens a shared chat and suggests possible times for the date. It proposes the earliest available time within an initial scheduling window of up to three weeks. Once both people confirm, Amata books the location.
After the date, users can talk through the experience with their AI matchmaker. That feedback helps the system learn more about what they are looking for and guide future matches.
How is Amata different from other matchmaking services?
Amata is designed so that matches are set up on dates by the service and are unable to message each other directly until two hours before their date. Dates take place at Amata partner venues, where staff know that the pair is meeting through the service.
Amata also has rules designed to keep users engaged in the process. Anyone who cancels two introductions in a row, or fails to confirm two introductions by the deadline, has new introductions temporarily paused. As Huraux put it, "It's about intentionality."
In New York City, Amata also runs the Spark Series, a blind-dating program where neither person sees a photo of the other before meeting.
How much does Amata cost?
Amata uses a token system, with each user needing one token for every date the app arranges. Tokens can be purchased individually or through a subscription, and individual tokens remain valid for 12 months after purchase.
The optional Premium subscription is available in one-, three-, or six-month terms and renews automatically unless canceled. It includes unlimited date tokens as well as additional features. Amata Plus in-app purchases range from $34.99 to $119.99.
The Amata Spark Series costs $120 for six blind dates over six weeks in New York City. Participants who complete at least five of those dates without finding a mutual second date can receive additional blind dates for free, up to 12 dates in total.
Looking for a matchmaker who listens?
Known gets to know you through voice, so you can talk about what you're looking for in a relationship the way you naturally would, rather than trying to squeeze it all into a dating profile. From your values and relationship goals to the little things that make you, you, Known uses those conversations to understand who might be worth meeting.
Potential matches go through the same process. When there's someone you both want to meet, Known handles the logistics, finding a time, booking the reservation, and sending you the details.
Because chemistry is best discovered in person, Known is designed to get you there. When you both say yes to an introduction, Known finds a time, books the reservation, and sends you the details, so all you have to do is show up.
Known is currently available in San Francisco and San Diego, with plans to expand nationwide. Download Known to see when your city is launching.
