What is Iris Dating?
Iris Dating is an AI dating app that learns who each user finds attractive and recommends people who may be attracted to them in return.
Founded by Igor Khalatian, Iris bases its matching system on a patented algorithm that a team of data scientists continues to develop. Registration is free, with Gold and Platinum memberships available for additional features. Two users can begin messaging only after they have both liked each other.
How does Iris work?
Before Iris begins recommending matches, new users train its AI to understand the kinds of faces they find attractive.
Users must be at least 18, and every new member verifies their profile photo with a quick in-app selfie that is not shown on their profile. The training process begins with users rating a series of stock photos. Iris then starts showing profiles it predicts they will find appealing.
Users can like a profile to show interest or send an Iris Flower, which moves their profile to the top for that person. Each user receives one free flower every Sunday. Messaging becomes available once two people have liked each other and become a match.
How does Iris use AI to match people?
Iris uses AI to learn which facial features a user finds attractive and predict which people may be attracted to that user in return. The process starts with users rating random stock photos, followed by photos selected specifically for them by the algorithm. Each like or dislike gives Iris more information about their preferences. The training focuses on facial features and is designed to ignore clothing, hairstyle, race, and skin color. Users can also upload a headshot of someone they find attractive. Rather than searching for lookalikes, Iris looks for subtle patterns shared across the faces a user tends to like. Distance settings do not affect these suggestions, and Iris notes that predicted mutual attraction is very rare.
What is the difference between Iris Your Type and Your Fans?
Your Type shows people Iris predicts a user will find strongly attractive, while Your Fans shows people the AI predicts will be attracted to that user. The two sections work in opposite directions: Your Type reflects the user's own preferences, while Your Fans reflects other people's predicted attraction to them. A third section, Mutuals, includes profiles where Iris predicts the attraction will go both ways. Separately, a Recommended label can appear on someone's profile photo when Iris detects that person's attraction toward the user.
What does Iris Picks mean?
Iris Picks are personalized recommendations generated by the app's AI. They are based on what a user likes and dislikes, along with who Iris predicts may be attracted to them in return. The feature is built on research and data from more than 2.5 million users, which found that AI-recommended profiles were preferred up to 12 times more often than regular profiles. Iris Picks become more refined over time as users interact with the app and provide honest feedback about the people they are shown.
Is Iris Dating Free?
Iris Dating is free to join and use at a basic level, with Gold and Platinum memberships available for additional features.
Free users can send one Iris Flower per week to someone in Your Type, with additional flowers available to purchase. They can also browse and match with people in Your Fans.
Gold and Platinum members receive more Iris Picks, unlimited likes, the ability to see who has liked them, and additional weekly flowers. Both memberships also include Super Search, a premium feature that searches for people a user finds attractive who may also be attracted to them.
Looking for a matchmaker who gets to know you and plans the date?
Known is a matchmaking service for intentional daters who want a more personal, hands-off approach to dating. Instead of learning your type from photos, Known's matchmaker gets to know you beyond what fits on a dating profile, from your values and relationship goals to the little things that make you, you. Potential matches get the same thoughtful treatment, so when there's someone worth meeting, Known makes the introduction.
Because chemistry is best discovered in person, Known is designed to get you there. When you both say yes to an introduction, Known finds a time, books the reservation, and sends you the details, so all you have to do is show up.
Known is currently available in San Francisco and San Diego, with plans to expand nationwide. Download Known to see when your city is launching.
Getting to know someone takes trust. Known puts privacy and safety alongside the introduction: our privacy policy explains how information is handled, and our community guidelines cover consent, respectful behavior, and confidential reporting.
