What Is Timeleft? Maxime Barbier's IRL Events App
Discover Timeleft's IRL events for making new friends: group dinners, drinks, and runs in your city. Learn how matching works and what they cost.
What is Timeleft?
Timeleft is an IRL social app that brings groups of strangers together for organized meetups, including dinners, drinks, runs, and coffees.
There are no profiles to browse, bios to read, or people to swipe through. Instead, Timeleft forms the group and handles the logistics, so members only have to show up. The service has more than 4 million members across 200+ cities in 52 countries.
Who started Timeleft?
Timeleft was co-founded by French entrepreneur Maxime Barbier, who serves as CEO, and operates under Timeleft SAS. The first Timeleft dinner took place in Lisbon in May 2023.
The concept evolved before settling on its current format. Timeleft began as a platform matching people around bucket-list goals, then moved into pairing people for city activities, followed by group outings, before ultimately focusing on restaurant gatherings.
How does Timeleft work?
To book an event, a member signs up, answers a short set of questions, and chooses a city and day. Timeleft then selects the group, books the restaurant, and provides the time and location.
As of April 2026, dinners take place on Wednesdays and can be booked up to 13 hours before they begin. Groups include four to six guests, most of whom attend alone, although members can bring a +1.
The restaurant is revealed shortly before dinner, so members do not choose the other guests or plan the evening themselves.
How does Timeleft match members with other people?
Timeleft uses an algorithm to form groups based partly on personality. Members complete a short personality quiz when they sign up, and their answers help determine who they are seated with.
As of April 2026, the algorithm selects the other guests and then chooses a partner restaurant based on factors including the group's budget, location, and preferred atmosphere.
Timeleft also aims to balance each table across age, personality, and language preferences. The goal is to create interesting combinations rather than perfect matches. Events are available in the local language and English, and members can choose one or both, with Timeleft aiming to seat people who selected the same language together.
Is Timeleft for dating?
Timeleft is primarily designed to help people make friends and is open to anyone 18 or older, or 21 and older in the UAE.
Its regular dinners are not specifically dating events. There are no dating profiles and members do not choose who they will meet ahead of time. For people interested in romance, Timeleft offers Singles Events as a separate format.
In July 2024, founder Maxime Barbier said some members are looking for love, while a large share use Timeleft to make new friends or simply try something different.
What types of events are on Timeleft?
Timeleft offers three main event formats: Dinners with five new people, Drinks for casual bar meetups, and Runs built around relaxed group exercise.
As of April 2026, Timeleft's blog also lists coffees, women-only dinners held on Tuesdays in more than 50 cities, and Singles Events.
For its dinner events, Timeleft chooses the group, so members do not select the other guests themselves.
What if I can no longer attend a Timeleft event?
As of April 2026, Timeleft members can cancel their membership at any time, with access ending at the close of the current billing period.
Members who do not show up for an event are charged a penalty equal to 35% of the monthly membership price. Details about canceling or changing an individual event reservation, including whether there is a free cancellation window, are not covered here.
How much does Timeleft cost?
As of April 2026, Timeleft costs $19.99 per month in the U.S. The subscription covers matching, restaurant booking, and icebreakers for its meetups.
Food and drinks are not included and are paid for separately at the venue. That means a member's total cost includes both the monthly subscription and whatever they spend during the event.
Pricing outside the U.S. and any discounts for longer membership terms are not covered here.

Known is built for people who want to be introduced to one person at a time. Its matchmaker gets to know you beyond what fits on a dating profile, from your values and relationship goals to the smaller details that make you who you are.
Potential matches go through the same process. When there is someone compatible worth meeting, Known makes the introduction and handles the logistics. If you both say yes, Known finds a time, books the reservation, and sends you the details, so all you have to do is show up.
Known is currently available in San Francisco and San Diego, with plans to expand nationwide. Download Known to see when your city is launching.
