Sherman Library & Gardens

Sherman Library & Gardens is an easy first date when you want somewhere quiet enough to talk but still have plenty to look at. The Corona del Mar gardens each have a different feel, with paths winding past the Tropical Conservatory, Succulent Garden, and other landscaped areas.
Some sections are currently closed for improvements, so a little construction noise is possible. The gardens are open daily from 10:30am to 4pm, with a closure on Sunday, Oct. 18. There is no regular on-site dining right now, though afternoon tea is offered on select dates in 2026.

Balboa Island Ferry

The Balboa Island Ferry turns a simple walk into a little more of an outing. Take the short crossing between Balboa Island and the Balboa Peninsula, then spend the rest of the date wandering the bayfront together.
Pick up a Balboa Bar or frozen banana along the way, then continue toward the Balboa Fun Zone if neither of you is ready to call it. The ferry runs from 6:30am to midnight every day of the year.

Hilbert Museum of California Art

The Hilbert Museum works well for a first date because the galleries give you plenty to talk about without putting too much pressure on the conversation. The museum has two buildings and 26 galleries focused on California narrative art, and admission is free.
Visits need to be reserved in advance through the museum's site. The listed hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 10am to 5pm, so check before you go.

4th Street Market

4th Street Market is an easy first date when agreeing on one restaurant feels like too much commitment. The Santa Ana food hall has a rotating lineup of vendors, so you can each grab whatever sounds good and meet back at a table.
The patio adds a little more to do, with ping pong, giant Jenga, Connect 4, and board games. The market opens at 11am daily and closes at 9pm Sunday through Thursday and 10pm Friday and Saturday. Individual vendor hours vary.

Dana Point Harbor

Dana Point Harbor is a good first date when you mostly want time to walk and talk. Stroll along the water, browse the shops, or stop somewhere for food without needing much of an itinerary.
Whale watching, sailing, and paddleboarding are available if you want to make more of the day. On Wednesdays, a certified farmers market runs from 9am to 1pm. Parking in the new structure is free for the first four hours. The harbor remains open during ongoing revitalization work, so some construction notices are possible.
Las Brisas

Las Brisas is a first date for when you want the view to do some of the work. The Laguna Beach restaurant sits on a clifftop overlooking the ocean, with both an ocean-view dining room and seaside patio.
The menu leans into seafood with Mexican flavors, including house-made tortillas and salsas. Hours are 8am to 9pm Sunday through Thursday and 8am to 10pm Friday and Saturday.

Five Crowns

Five Crowns is a cozy option when you want the first date to feel a little more special. The Corona del Mar steakhouse is styled like an old English country inn, with fireplaces, antiques, period paintings, a greenhouse, and an English garden.
Tuesday brings $2 Oyster Night. Dinner runs from 4:30 to 9pm Sunday through Thursday and 4:30 to 9:30pm Friday and Saturday. Reservations are recommended.

Ruin Bar

Ruin Bar is a good first stop when you want cocktails somewhere with a little more personality than the standard bar. Hidden inside The LAB Anti-Mall in Costa Mesa, the indoor-outdoor space is filled with knick-knacks and tucked behind white shuttered doors.
It also works well before dinner, with Habana nearby if the date is going well. A DJ plays Friday and Saturday, while Thursday brings live music. Hours run Monday to Wednesday from 6pm to midnight, Thursday and Sunday from 2pm to 1am, and Friday and Saturday from 2pm to 2am.

Hive & Honey Rooftop Bar

Hive & Honey is a rooftop option for a first date that calls for drinks and a view. The bar sits atop the Marriott Irvine Spectrum, with panoramic views across Irvine and the surrounding landscape.
The menu includes wings, tacos, sliders, shareables, and salads, while cocktails run about $17 and beers about $8. Bee Social Hour runs Tuesday through Saturday from 4 to 6pm.

Probably the smoothest, easiest, and most engaging “dating app” onboarding I’ve had ever. I didn’t even procrastinate because I don’t have to think hard to curate my own profile, which is always such a chore. The app is aesthetically designed so pretty and no fuss. So far loving it!
Such a great app and I felt so safe
It felt like a really natural way to talk about myself and what I’m looking for. Like I was talking to a friend. Super easy, cool approach to approach online dating. I’m excited
