First Date Spots in Seattle

Ten first date spots in Seattle, from candlelit wine bars and shared plates to a market to wander and a Ferris wheel with a view.

A first date feels easier when there is something to sip, taste, or look at as you get to know each other. These ten Seattle spots give you room to talk, whether you prefer a quiet corner over wine or a livelier setting that takes some pressure off the conversation.

Tiny candles, French sparkling wine, and cured meats and cheeses make Le Caviste a thoughtful choice for drinks and a light bite on a first date. The French wine bar is in Denny Triangle.

Find a nook or corner for a little privacy, then share a few bites over sparkling wine.

La Dive

For a first date with a livelier backdrop, try La Dive, a natural wine bar in Capitol Hill. The menu includes Campari-spiked frozen Beaujolais slushies, orange wines, and a Spanish red served from a bag.

For something playful, there are also Chambongs: a Champagne shot topped with bubbles or Miller High Life.

Imperfetta

Keep a first date relaxed at Imperfetta, a Fremont wine bar in a warehouse-style space with polished concrete and a garage door that opens to let in a breeze.

The wine list leans natural, and $12 short pours make it easy to try a few without committing to a full glass. A small pantry selection means you can leave with a souvenir.

Chez Phinney

Choosing and pouring your own wine gives you a simple first-date activity at Chez Phinney in Phinney Ridge. Hand over a card, take an empty glass, and help yourself at the machines.

Options range from German sauvignon blanc to natural blends, with alcohol-free bubbles too. Michou Deli supplies the dips, and truffles are made in-house. Go earlier if conversation is the priority, since the EDM makes the room louder at night.

Homer

Sharing plates at Homer gives a first-date dinner an easy rhythm. The Beacon Hill restaurant serves Mediterranean and Middle Eastern-inspired food made with Pacific Northwest ingredients and cooked over a wood fire.

The dining room has wallpaper and wall molding, and the menu moves from mezze to larger meat dishes. In warmer months, finish with dessert from the soft-serve window at the entrance. Homer is open Tuesday through Sunday from 5pm to 10pm and closed Mondays.

San Fermo

Small library-style lamps and sparkling wine in coupes give San Fermo a quietly romantic feel for a low-key first dinner. The Ballard Italian restaurant occupies a retrofitted historic home, with shiplap inside and a patio outside.

Homemade pasta and caesar salad make a good order, and Ballard Ave has gelato for a walk afterward. Dinner begins at 5pm seven nights a week, with reservations and walk-ins welcome.

Kamonegi

Kamonegi's quiet, calm dining room makes it easy to talk over a first-date dinner in Fremont. The restaurant specializes in handmade ni-hachi soba, made with 80 percent buckwheat and 20 percent flour, alongside seasonal tempura.

Ikura on battered shiso leaves is one of the small plates to pair with sake. Reserve through the website, or try the limited first-come seats at the chef's counter and bar for parties of up to 5. Celiac and gluten-free diners should know the kitchen cannot accommodate those needs.

Pizza and a spritz at Bar Del Corso in Beacon Hill are an easy way to start talking. Wood-fired pizza anchors the menu, with salumi, cheese, and other Italian small plates to share, plus bread and sweets made in-house.

Sit inside or on the patio, and keep dinner brief if that suits your plans. Listed hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 4pm to 9pm. Book through the website, or email for parties of 7 or more. Every check includes a 3 percent operations fee.

Pike Place Market

Wander, snack, and see what catches your eye on a first date at Pike Place Market. Established in 1907, the nine-acre historic district brings together about 500 small businesses between the skyline and Puget Sound.

Sample treats at the stalls, share lunch from the food vendors, and pick up flowers before you leave. Most of the market is active from 10am to 5pm, with some restaurants open until midnight or later if you want to linger. It is open daily except Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

Seattle Great Wheel

For a first date built around a view and a short ride, meet at the Seattle Great Wheel on Pier 57 (Miners Landing). Pair it with a waterfront walk or clam chowder at Ivar's Acres of Clams beforehand.

Each ride makes three full revolutions, lasting about 10 to 15 minutes in winter and 12 to 20 minutes in summer. Colorful light shows usually run Friday through Sunday evenings. The wheel is open daily from 11am to 9pm, with no reservations during normal operations: buy a ticket and board.
