Maru Coffee is a mellow coffee shop in Los Feliz, set in a minimalist room of light wood and white walls. The coffee equipment and the coffee itself take center stage there.

Maru's signature order is the Cream Top, an iced long black finished with the shop's own cream, and the menu also lists single origin pourovers. The espresso tonic comes with a dried orange wheel, which suits a warm day.

Stereoscope Coffee is a minimalist Hollywood coffee shop with a wide, well-curated drinks menu. The menu has a handful of pourovers, then moves on to matcha, loose-leaf teas, and lattes and other milk drinks made sweeter.

For something sweeter, try the Spanish latte or the cream-top signature latte, and the matcha is a draw too.

Dayglow Coffee

Dayglow Coffee is a neon-lit Silver Lake coffee shop that works as a neighborhood hangout and a coffee subscription service. It welcomes serious coffee drinkers and casual ones alike, and the full espresso menu includes tonics and pourovers.

Seating is limited and outlets are few, so it suits a short sit more than a long afternoon, and the Wi-Fi is free. The signature drinks take a craft-cocktail approach, with some made from distilled coffee and cascara and served in stemware. The Warhol 2.0 is a crowd favorite. Coconut features twice in it, as condensed milk and as a cloud on top, alongside bourbon vanilla, spices, and citrus.

Go Get Em Tiger's Larchmont Village shop is a coffee shop with food, serving a full food and drink menu through bar-style service. There are patio seats, pastries, and brunchy bites, plus bottles of cold brew to grab and go.

A cappuccino made with almond and macadamia milk is a suggested order, and the baked egg with chorizo is a good breakfast option.

Civil Coffee's original shop in Highland Park is a coffee shop with food, with tables, couches, and a back patio. The room has tall ceilings, a mirrored bar, and floor tiles in a pattern.

Toasts, breakfast burritos, and Sugarbloom Bakery pastries add up to a full meal, and the shop stays busy through the day. The Figueroa is the drink to know, made with espresso, milk, sweetened condensed milk, and cinnamon, with a Maria Cookie on top.

Be Bright Coffee is a community-minded neighborhood coffee shop and roaster on Melrose in the Fairfax District. Drinks for dining in arrive in real glasses, and there is Wi-Fi plus free parking in the lot shared with Ronan.

The Vivid Cream Latte is an iced latte with cold foam and brown sugar, and seasonal drinks rotate, such as a Strawberry Sichuan Espresso Tonic in spring. You can also order ahead through the shop's website.

Verve Coffee Roasters

Verve Coffee Roasters' Arts District flagship is a cafe and roastery, spread over two stories and 7,000 square feet. The patio is breezy and dog-friendly, and some free parking is available.

The all-day menu includes banana sesame pancakes, and the coffee list rotates through single origin coffees and seasonal drinks.

The Guest House

For a coffee date in Los Feliz, The Guest House is a cafe worth picking. The cafe fills a converted Craftsman-style bungalow, where you can sit at the counter, on the open patio, at a high top, or in a hidden booth. The food menu runs all day, so coffee and a light bite are easy to pair.

There are no outlets, so bring a charged device if you need one.

Urth Caffe

Urth Caffe on Melrose in West Hollywood is a good pick for a coffee date. The cafe still draws a line out the door, so a short wait may be part of the visit.

Spiced chai and latte art stand out at Urth, and the menu stretches from full breakfasts to pecan sticky buns.

Bon Vivant Market Cafe

Bon Vivant Market Cafe is an Atwater Village market cafe with a coffee counter, and it makes a good coffee date. Servers bring food to your table at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and at night the tables are lit by candles.

The counter serves organic coffees, teas, and seasonal specialty drinks, and chicken and waffles is the standout breakfast dish.
