The Best Date Spots in Los Feliz in Los Angeles

Ten spots in and around Los Feliz, from a Frank Lloyd Wright house and a British-Californian dinner to a courtyard pool and a Scottish steakhouse.

Los Feliz has plenty of ways to spend a date, from wandering the shops and cafes along Hillhurst and Vermont to dinner in a candlelit restaurant or drinks at a neighborhood bar. These ten spots also take you beyond the neighborhood, with a historic Frank Lloyd Wright house, a romantic courtyard restaurant, and a lively Chinatown bar.

Hollyhock House

Bring a picnic and a blanket to the west lawn at Barnsdall Art Park for sunset, when the views are at their best. Picnics are welcome in the park, which is open daily from 6am to 10pm, though food and drink stay outside the house.

Hollyhock House is a Frank Lloyd Wright house, completed in 1921 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2019. Wander inside and out at your own pace, with docents nearby and guides in print or digital form.

The house is open Thursday through Saturday from 11am to 4pm, with last entry at 3:30pm, and advance tickets are strongly recommended. Parking in Barnsdall Park is free, though spaces are limited at the top and bottom of the hill.

Vandell is a Los Feliz cocktail lounge with different zones and a bar area that keep it feeling cozy even when it is full. The menu includes anchovy toast and Old Fashioneds.

The line is often out the door. Walk-ups get most of the spots, though a handful of tables open for booking a week out.

Wilde's

Wilde's is a British-Californian restaurant in Los Feliz, with a warm wood interior that feels like a British country pub. British heritage meets California ingredients here, so expect sticky toffee pudding, bangers and mash, and a meat pie built for two.

Maru Coffee

Maru Coffee is a coffee shop at 1936 Hillhurst Ave in Los Feliz with a calm, mellow feel. The room is minimalist, with light wood and white walls.

We recommend the Cream Top, an iced long black crowned with the shop's own cream. Single origin pourovers are also on the menu. It is a mellow place to step away from the rest of the day.

The Guest House

For a coffee date in Los Feliz, The Guest House is a cafe in a Craftsman-style bungalow that has been converted. Choose among an open patio, hidden booths, high tops, or the counter. The food menu runs all day.

Cara Restaurant

Cara is a courtyard restaurant at a hotel, and it suits romantic evenings and celebrations. The setting centers on a reflective pool, with olive trees, palms and a skylight open to the air.

Jyan Isaac Bread supplies the grilled sourdough that arrives alongside the prosciutto and burrata. The Mediterranean-flavored cooking leans on Californian produce. Reserve to sit poolside, while walk-ins tend to land on the front patio and at the bar. Live music runs at Cara Bar, where craft cocktails meet Wednesday Salsa and Sunday Jazz.

Tam O'Shanter is a Scottish-style pub and steakhouse that the same family has run at one address since 1922. The room is cozy and old-world, with a collection of family tartans on the walls.

Melody Lounge

Melody Lounge is a lantern-lit, beer-focused bar in Chinatown that works as well for a date night as for meeting someone new. Overhead, paper lanterns glow. On the menu, dozens of beers come in bottles or from the tap.

The DJs keep the music loud, and there's a small dance floor if the date calls for more than another round.

The Dresden

The Dresden has two distinct areas, so you choose between a sit-down meal and a lounge by the bar. The lounge is the one known for live music.

We recommend the lounge for old-school cocktails, including the rum-based Blood & Sand, along with a live jazz show. The menu in the restaurant has a midcentury feel.

Los Feliz Village

Los Feliz is best experienced on foot, with Vermont Avenue and Hillhurst Avenue as its two main streets. Sit at the sidewalk tables at Figaro Bistro on Vermont, or head to the brick patio at Alcove and to Big Bar on Hillhurst.

Browse Skylight Books and Soap Plant Wacko, or catch a screening at the Los Feliz Theatre. To go car-free, start at the Vermont/Sunset B Line stop, which is close to the center of the neighborhood.
